Ammonium BiSulfite Solution
Ammonium bisulfite (ABS) (65% Solution) is a transparent yellow or light green liquid possessing versatile reductive and sulfonating properties. ABS is used in a wide range of inductrial applications, including:
- Waste water treatment - Removes Chlorine from waste water
- Reductive bleaching agent - It reduces carbonyl and alcohol groups, which function as colorants of substances. It is used in bleaching mechanical paper pulp, cotton, wool and kaolin clay.
- Preservative (antioxidant) used in food and beverage processing industry
- Reducing agent in chemical manufacturing
- Alternative to sulfur dioxide in sterilization of equipment.
- Cyanide destruction in precious metals mining - Gold mining tailings are treated with ABS where it reacts with the free cyanide to form non-toxic chemical compounds.
- Oxygen scavenger in drilling solutions for the oil and gas drilling industry
